Drink Coffee To Cure Depression
Drinking 2 to 4 cups of coffee helps in reducing the risk of depression among men and women, a research study revealed.
Coffee is one the most common beverages in all over the world. Realizing the importance of coffee in our daily life, researchers from Harvard School of Public Health did a study to find its benefits on our health.
The researchers reviewed the data from three previous US studies and found the risk of suicide due to depression amongst adults who drank several cups of unsweetened coffee on a daily basis was about 50 percent less than people who had sweetened coffee, very little coffee or no coffee at all.
The study observed the consumption of both coffee and non-coffee beverages - including tea, chocolate and caffeinated soft drinks like cola. However, the majority of the participants had coffee as the source of caffeine over the other options.
Caffeine works by stimulating the central nervous system but may act as a mild antidepressant by increasing production of certain 'feel good' neurotransmitters in the brain. Coffee's mood-lifting effect might be traced to its antioxidants as caffeine solely does not reduce the risk of depression. Because other caffeinated beverages like cola did not show any benefit in reducing the risk of depression.
