English is a funny language. There are thousands of words, and no matter how good the vocabulary, no one can claim to know every single word of this mesmerising language.

Here is a list of 10 such words that you never knew existed. What makes this list special is that these words refer to things we all come across in our daily life.

1. Lunule

These are the white tips of your nails, which you always cut or file. Yes, you have been calling them nails ever since you remember.

2. Muntin

These are the metal or wooden partitions holding the panes of your windows.

3. Akimbo

This is the position that you take when you are hell-bent on something, the hands on the hip position.

4. Skeuomorph

This is an object derived from an original design, which retains something from the original, although that thing is obsolete now.

5. Brannock Device

This is the device you measure you foot at, in shoe shops.

6. Phosphenes

These are the various forms of light you see when you shut your eyes too hard.

The thinner side of the hammer

8. Petrichor

This is the smell of wet floor, just after it rains. *Bliss*

9. Aglet

This is the plastic or metal sheath at the end of a shoelace or a cord.

10. Glabella

This is the space between your eyebrows, which is probably shrunk now because of your doubt over the existence of a word for this.
