​This Independence Day Try Out Tricolor Recipes

With patriotism in air, several malls, cinema halls, and offices across the country have donned the color of the Indian flag that is saffron, white, and green. The citizens of the sub-continent are planning to wear a mix of tricolor to reflect the spirit of nationalism. When we have decided about the dressing style, then how can we leave food behind? Here we bring to you four tricolor recipes that you can prepare to make this Independence Day even more special.

Tricolor Sandwich

Breakfast, the first meal of the day, keep you energized for rest of the day. On this special day, prepare healthy tricolor sandwiches for friends and family. This will not only be the perfect thing to start your day, it will also add more flavor to the Independence Day celebration.

Ingredients:
· Six bread slices
· 1/2 cup butter
· 1/2 cup grated paneer (cottage cheese)
· Mint chutney
· 1/2 cup grated carrot
· Two tablespoons mayonnaise
· Salt to taste

How to prepare:
· Apply butter on bread slices and cut its sides.
· Now take a bowl to prepare the mixture for green layer, add mint chutney in 1/2 cup of grated paneer (cottage cheese). Mix salt as per your taste.
· Take another bowl to prepare the mixture for orange layer. Add two tablespoons of mayonnaise in ½ cup of grated carrot. Now add salt as per your taste.
· Now take a bread slice and apply the green mixture on it. Place another slice on top of it and spread the orange mixture on that. Cover it up with the third bread slice.
· You can cut this in a triangular shape and serve with sauce and potato wafers.

Tricolor Idlis

As most of us are fond of soft and spongy idlis, this Independence Day try making tricolor idlis at your home. Relish this dish with friends and family on this day.

Ingredients:
· 2 cups rice - 2 cups
· 1 cup urad dal (white)
· 1 cup coriander puree (for green color)
· 1 cup carrot puree (for orange color)
· Salt to taste

How to prepare
· Wash and soak urad dal and rice, separately. Add two teaspoon of methi seeds (fenugreek seeds) each bowl overnight or for about 6 to 8 hours.
· Grind rice and dal in a blender into a smooth paste. Mix both well. Add salt as per your taste and set the batter aside in a warm place for 8-9 hours for fermenting. You can even place it in your microwave overnight. Please make sure that your microwave is in switch off mode. Next morning your batter will be ready for making idlis.
· For tricolor idlis take three different bowls and put batter in equal portions in to
  1. For Green color - Add coriander puree to one bowl.
  2. For Orange color - Add carrot puree to the bowl.
  3. For White color - Use the basic batter mix.
· Take microwave idli maker and spread the batter of different colors separately on two plate stacked on top of each other. This idli maker cooks eight idlis at a tin. Now put 1/4th cup of water at the bottom of the microwave idli maker tray.
· Cover with the lid and microwave at full power for 4-5 minutes. Check to see if the idlis are done by inserting a knife or fork in the idlis. If the knife or fork does not come out clean, then microwave again for 1-1.5 minutes.
· Enjoy your idlis with sambhar and coconut chutney.

Tiranga Pulao

This is one of the special recipes that most of us do not miss on any special occasion. Independence day is perfect time to taste this dish.

Ingredients
· 3 cups long grained rice (basmati)
· 6 cloves (laung)
· A medium piece of cinnamon (dalchini)
· 3-4 cardamoms (elaichi)
· Zeera (cumin)
· 1 carrot (finely grated)
· 1 cup orange juice
· 1 cup chopped onions
· 1/2 bunch of coriander (dhania) leaves
· 1 tablespoon grated coconut
· 1 cup grated paneer (cottage cheese)
· 1 cup ghee
· 3-4 green chillies
· 2-3 cloves of garlic (lehsun)
· A small piece of ginger (adrak)
· 1/2 cup green peas
· Salt to taste
· A few drops of orange color

How to prepare
· Divide the rice into 2/3 and 1/3, which is 2 cups separately and 1 cup separately.
· Then, wash the rice thoroughly and soak in water for 30 mins.
· Take a pan, add 1 tablespoon of ghee, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom.
· Strain the 2/3 rice and fry for 2 mins.
· Now add double the amount of water and cook till 3/4th done. You can pick up the rice with fork to separate the grains.
· Separate the remaining ghee into 3 parts.

For the white layer
· Heat one part of ghee in a pan, add chopped onions and fry till transparent.
· Add the grated paneer, salt, and white pepper. Saute for few minutes.
· Add half of the cooked rice and mix well.

For the green layer
· Put coriander leaves, coconut, green chillies, ginger, and garlic in a grinder and mix it well to make a paste.
· Heat the next part of ghee, add zeera, and the saute for a while.
· Next add green peas, salt and 1 tablespoon of water, saute and cover and cook till the green peas are cooked.
· Add remaining part of cooked rice and mix well.

For the orange layer
· Heat the remaining ghee, add the grated carrot and saute till cooked.
· Add the 1/3rd soaked rice and fry for a while.
· Add the orange juice, 1 cup water, salt and a few drops of orange color and cook the rice covered till done.
· Fork to separate the grains.

Final touch to Tiranga pulao

· Take a heavy bottomed pan and grease it with ghee.
· First spread the orange rice fully in the bottom of the pan.
· Sprinkle some grated cheese.
· Next spread the white rice.
· Sprinkle some grated cheese over it.
· At last add the green rice and cover.
· Keep the heat on low and cook for another 10 mins.
· After a few mins, invert the rice on the serving dish.
· Enjoy it with raita and papad.

Tricolor Rim Jhim

As its so hot these days, Rim Jhim acts as a best thirst quencher. It is not just easy to prepare but tastes equally good.

Ingredients:
· 2 tablespoons of khus syrup
· ½ cup Sprite or Limca
· ½ cup Mirinda Orange
· 2 teaspoons lemon juice
· Salt as per taste
· Crushed ice

How to prepare:
· Take a mocktail glass.
· Pour in khus syrup.
· Put some crushed ice. Add lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Do not mix it.
· Add Sprite very gently so that the liquids do not mix.
· Again add some ice, lemon juice, and salt.
· Now add Mirinda Orange very carefully through the sides.
· This may need a little practice and patience but the outcome will be refreshing to your taste buds.
