When a deal for a designer handbag or a pair of jeans sounds too good to be true, how do you tell a fake from the genuine item? It ain't easy, but keep in mind some of the tips from this infographic, made by Farfetch for London Is The Reason.

The devil is in the details, apparently. For example, the hardware-like zippers-should move smoothly, feel heavy and be of the same colour everywhere. Designers also tend to have matte finish on their hardware, as opposed to the glossy finish you will find on knock-offs.

Of course, these tips won't apply to every single item and situation, but they are still signs that you should watch out for when buying from a less-than-reputable seller. Here's the full infographic:
