Watch Out for the Hardest-to-Assemble Ikea Furniture

Some people love the challenge, the meditative peace of wordless instructions and fifty tiny bags of tiny screws. But some of us scream at the mere sight of a hex key. Depending on which group you fall into, this is either a challenge or a warning to stay far, far away.

Apartment Therapy combed through the replies to a post in the Ikea subreddit that asked, "What is the most difficult Ikea furniture to put together that they have? And no I don't mean the one without the manual..." The top three answers were:

  1. Any of the bunk beds
  2. Brimnes storage beds
  3. Trysil bed frame

Which I'm afraid means that the dresser I assembled in 2004 that only ever had two functioning drawers might've been my own fault.

Moving parts like dresser drawers always add extra complications, which is what you get with Brimnes. Trysil is apparently deceptively complex, and bunk beds require extraordinary stability. Even the Ikea assembly masochists should take care on that count. After all, there's no room to fudge a corner when you're planning to loft your own offspring five feet in the air.
