How Should I Adjust My Resume When Switching Careers?
Changing careers is never easy. But what do you do when your current job title and industry don't match up in the industry to which you aspire, even if you have the right skills? Been in a similar situation? Jump in and help out a fellow reader.
I'm a restaurant manager in the fast food industry and want to make a career change, hopefully to facilities management. However, I'm having trouble getting my resume past HR representatives that just see a different job title in a different industry (and fast food at that).
The thing is that, as a manger, I run a $2 million building and maintain tens of thousands of dollars in equipment. I'm also responsible for hiring and firing, training, safety/security, budgeting, and loads of other things that I think prove my management skills. How do I get people to see past my current job title and industry to what I actually do?
