Bring Back 'Flair' as an Accessories Concept
When we rounded up our staff's Weekly Upgrades last Friday, our editors were unfollowing obnoxious Facebook friends, upping our 401(k) contributions, embracing typing gloves, and springing for fancy espresso makers.
This week, we're improving our beauty routines, adding on some eye-catching accessories, and, er, springing for fancy espresso makers.
What upgrades did you make this week? Let us know in the comments.
Finally master the art of eyeliner
I wore eyeliner in public for what I believe is the first time ever. Every time I get ready for a party or something fancy, I try putting on eyeliner, am horrified at the mess I've made of my eyes, wash it off, then go with another look (often putting dark eyeshadow near my lash line as a consolation prize). I'm guessing I finally hit some magic number of attempts because this time it kind of didn't look bad? This was the day before a party (I was trying to figure out what to pack, since I was traveling) so over the next day I watched a few tutorials and bought myself a new Essence eyeliner pen . I also used tip #18 from this listicle to do a tiny wing. The result looked not terrible and was even the same on both sides! It's a Christmas miracle!

Improve your crossword puzzle prowess
I bought a New York Times crossword puzzle book so I can keep up with everyone in this office who thinks that the Monday through Wednesday puzzles are "too easy."

Invest in your art supplies
I'm slowly learning how to draw and paint as a hobby, so I bought a portable watercolor paint set from Kremer Pigments here in NYC . It's easy to carry anywhere you go (which is great for painting quick pieces in a pub or coffee shop), and the colors look so great!

Consolidate your tabs in Chrome
I started using the Chrome extension One Tab, which magically closes all your tabs and converts them into a list of links. It's so satisfying for a tab-hoarder like me, who fears that tiny X. The pages are all still there, but now my browser-and my mind-is so much clearer.

Embrace the concept of flair
I like to flair up my work outfits with a lapel pin. This week I wore my new Bloody Mary enamel pin , which has since sold out, but you can still buy tons of pins by small businesses and artists at the Brat Box shop. Many pin shops are cluttered with puns or pop culture mashups where, like, Rick and Morty are Homer and Bart. These are mercifully absent from Brat Box.

Switch from drip to espresso
The avid reader might recall a while back when I made 'quitting coffee' one of my weekly upgrades, in a bid to mitigate my acid reflux. Well, I'm less heavily on the sauce than I used to be, but it's unpleasant, and frankly I don't want to give it up! As a compromise, I'm switching from drip coffee to espresso, which has lower acidity. I was mulling buying a Nespresso heavily on sale, but instead I'm snapping up a lightly used model from our Editor-in-Chief Melissa, at an even steeper discount. I'm excited to be saving money, to get to tinker with making espresso at home, and for any opportunity to take something off someone's hands that might otherwise get thrown away.

Accessorize your animal
I got my dog a robe. (Ed note: it appears to be more like a Snuggie, and has a little hood.) It keeps her warm and it makes me very happy.
