In addition to sales and income tax, states are funded through other sources, like corporate tax, severance tax ( taxes incurred on the production of non-renewable resources, like oil), or property tax. In the below graphic, the Pew Charitable Trusts breaks down the percentage of each of these sources in the 50 states. Especially with so much up in the air in our government right now , this kind of transparency is important.
In most states, personal income taxes make up the largest percentage of tax dollars, and general sales taxes are the largest source in 17 of 45 states. Pew has other data here (XLSX) if you want to see a further breakdown of percentages.
