Tuesday Isn't Magic Plane Ticket Buying Day
If you fancy yourself a smart, budget-focused traveler, you've probably
heard advice telling you to wait to buy plane tickets on a Tuesday
, because that's the point in the week when tickets are supposedly at their cheapest. Well, that may not be the case anymore.
Unfortunately for us true believers,
airline data analysed by Hopper
proclaims Tuesday is not the magical
So when should you book? Thursdays seem to be the best days for both domestic and international flights, earning you an average savings of $10 for domestic flights and $25 for international flights. That said, the Tuesday midnight special still exists for some domestic flights, but it may not be worth the missed sleep. The worst days to buy are Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
And while you book, be sure to scope out the best days to depart and return. Hopper's data suggest the cheapest day to fly out is Wednesday, with the cheapest returns on Tuesday-unless it's an international flight. In that case, the cheapest day to both depart and return is Wednesday.
