Why You Should Make Your Bed Every Day

"You haven't made your bed yet?" Isn't this something you heard every day from your mother. Well, there was a reason she said this. It is not as mundane a task as you thought. Most productive people say that when you make your bed every morning, you complete your first task of the day successfully and you are ready to take on the world.

Charles Duhigg in his book, "The Power of Habit," says that daily bed making becomes a keystone habit, something that kickstarts a chain of other good decisions throughout the day, and gives you a sense of taking charge. According to the author, these keystone habits lead to a greater sense of well-being and stronger skills at sticking with a budget."

Unlike what you thought, this simple trivial task is actually not a waste of time. It is rather something that will get you going and set a positive tone for the day. Most successful people say that it makes them more disciplined. This simple activity helps you focus on the task at hand . This is actually a good mindfulness task, just like washing dishes and cleaning the floor.

Also, it is often said that whenever you feel anxious for no good reason, this is one armchair psychology trick that will make you feel happy instantly. Various studies on happiness, suggest that simple tasks make you happier and making bed is one of them. When you declutter your house, you declutter your mind. You will feel a lot happier and accomplished from the time you wake up. And, imagine walking into a clean beautiful home after a long day at work? Such a sight will uplift your mood immediately. It is truly a refuge that will help you feel soothed.
