How To Get Things Done With Microsoft To-Do

For a long time, Wunderlist was the best to-do app you can use on any platform. The beautiful and minimalist app created by the German developers 6Wunderkinder was acquired by Microsoft in June 2015. The team behind the amazing app then worked on what is currently one of the best to-do apps - Microsoft To-Do, even surpassing the simplicity, beautiful design and intuitiveness of Wunderlist. So here is how to use Microsoft To-Do to get things done.

The Lists

Just like Wunderlist, Microsoft To-Do is based on list structure. You can create as many lists you want and you can populate these lists with tasks. The app comes with a default To-Do list, where all your tasks are saved unless you create additional lists. You can use the To-Do list as a 'dumb it all' inbox in Microsoft To-Do.

When it comes to creating additional lists, it is ideal to limit the lists to a manageable number. You can create lists based on context as advised by David Allen in his best seller Getting Things Done. That means lists named Work, Home, Computer, etc., where you can add tasks that can be done in a particular place or time.

My Day

My Day feature is a unique addition to Microsoft To-Do. Every day My Day list starts out empty so that you can be more intentional about adding what you want to get done each day. Although apps like Things had a similar Today feature, it was not as intuitive or simple to use as Microsoft To-Do's. Additionally, you can go to your existing tasks from any of the lists and add them to the My Day, if you plan to get those tasks done in that day.

Intelligent Suggestions

Intelligent Suggestion is a feature in Microsoft To-Do that will make it appear futuristic. The feature, powered by AI, make it easy to prioritize your daily tasks. Intelligent Suggestions look at your to-dos across your lists and, based on a smart algorithm, recommend the most important ones for you each day.

By using Intelligent Suggestions, you can see to-dos from the day before, what's due or upcoming, and other helpful suggestions based on To-Do's AI powered algorithm. And you can add the ones you want to get done to My Day list.
