Stop Being Chronically Late by Changing Your "Gotta Keep Busy" Mindset

Patrick Allan , Gizmodo Media

There are a lot of reasons people are chronically late, but one of the most prominent might be your desire to constantly be productive or occupied. You need to find a way to be okay with doing nothing.

Georgia Frances King at Quartz says she is constantly late, but she's making an effort to change that in the new year. Here's her approach:

...I'm going to start being comfortable with the idea of being still. I'll learn to sit with myself for 10 minutes, even if that means the bathtub goes un-bleached, emails un-sent, and Instagram images un-posted. I'm not a superhuman cyborg, and life isn't just one long to-do list. Every minute of the day doesn't need to be scheduled for maximum efficiency.

Leaving early may not be the most efficient use of your time-especially when it feels like you have a million things on your to-do list-but it almost always guarantees you'll be where you say you'll be on time. Get comfortable just sitting and waiting with yourself for 10 minutes and you won't have to rush or stress as much anymore.

Always running 10 minutes late? There's a really good reason for that | Quartz
