S. Shanthi
We often find ourselves running to counselors and psychiatrists for various life issues. However, we have lost touch with some of our rich heritage that has the solution to every hurdle in life. We are talking about the greatest epics of all times, The Bhagavad Gita, one of the most popular religious spiritual books. Considered to be a doctrine of universal truth, it has been influencing people not only of India but also overseas.

When Arjuna turned to his charioteer, Lord Krishna, for advice at the Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna stated these philosophical concepts that are relevant even today. Mahatma Gandhi considered Bhagavad Gita as a spiritual dictionary. It was also a book of inspiration for many leaders of the Independence movement. Teachings of Bhagavad Gita are still applicable, even after about 5000 thousand years after it was written. These teachings encompass each and every aspect of life.

Bhagavad Gita as we all know is an enlightening collection of lessons given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the battle of Mahabharata. Mahabharata, one of the greatest Indian epics read so far, has gained appreciation world over. And the Gita is the essence of the entire story. In Mahabharata, when cousins Pandava and Kaurava are about to fight among themselves for the throne of Hastinapur, Pandava prince Arjuna feels weak in the battleground when he sees his relatives, teachers and friends in the opposition. And, when Lord Krishna sees him losing strength and willingness to fight, he gives him what is known as “Gita Gyan”. Through this gyan he helps Arjuna get rid of his doubts and dilemmas.

Even today Bhagavad Gita is and can be an epic scripture that has the answers to all our problems. Various leaders have often quoted the Gita. It is considered as a book that gives direction to the lost person and answers to confused ones. So, why not go back to our roots, and learn from words of wisdom that are truly eternal? Here are the most essential teachings that one can learn from Bhagavad Gita.
